BRUCE NAUMAN VIDEO

Nauman_stamping Check this out if you haven’t seen Bruce Nauman Stamping in the Studio, 1968 (42.7 mb, MP4)  you must check it out!

Stangely poigniant given the current political climate and its relation to post-68 art in America.

Long download, but worth it…

MORE PAINT

Sonybrapaint We were at dinner at my neighbors a few nights ago and after the second bottle of wine we got to talking about art, specifically what/where the best, most ambitious, most beautiful and innovative art was being made today and my neighbor took the position that advertising artists are the modern day equivalent to Renaissance masters i.e., Leonardo, etc. Some of us offered that the comparison was of little value as art has so many different forms, functions, and venues today. We argued, had more wine, argued some more, and stumbled off to bed (each to his/her own, in case you were wondering).

Well, here is a little spot that has me reconsidering: "Paint,"

Directed by Jonathan Glazer, who’s known for his music videos, the piece took 10 days and 250 people to film and five days and 60 people to clean up."

PAINT BY NUMBERS

Paintbynumber And more goodies:

several interesting visual translations of digital photographic data into other systems. in ‘paint-by-number’, each pixel is labeled with a numeric code. bigger boxes emerge where 2 or more adjacent pixels are the same color, revealing how digital images are digitally compressed & stored. in ‘first lines’, a visual timeline of photographs taken over two months is created. the concept is similar to recalling texts: a reader might not always recall the title or author of a poem, but is likely to remember how it begins.

ENO PAINTINGS

Brianeno From information aesthetics:

a collection of computer-generated art works that combines & layers Brian Eno’s hand-made slides based on parameters from his ambient music. the program can generate 77 million different artworks automatically. Eno said: "I think of these things as visual music … intended to occupy television downtime so that, instead of having a dead hole in the wall, you have a living picture."

WHEN I’M 30…

Raul_gutierrez Ran across this on photographer Raul Gutierrez  site: He published this upon hearing news of the terminal illness of a childhood friend.

‘When I was a kid I imagined adult life would be a kind of paradise. At age 10 I wrote, "When I’m 30 it will be 1997 (almost 2000!), I’m going to do all the astronomy I want and stay up as late as I want every single night. I’ll eat watermelon every day and eat hamburgers cooked on a grill. After work I’ll shoot model rockets and on weekends I’ll take trips in my hovercar like in Star Wars. I’ll probably have a wife who will let me see her boobs whenever I want. We’ll read together and go camping and skinny dipping for fun. She’ll probably have long hair and a good personality. I’m pretty sure we’ll crack each other up. My friends will come over all the time to use the trampolines and the pools in the back."’

Oh, yes, this was it: "And we should consider every day lost on which we have not danced at least once. And we should call every truth false which was not accompanied by at least one laugh."

This image has been on my screen a lot lately. I’m working on a painting-picture which references thiTum_half_1 s picture-painting; one of my favorites.
